Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers return home from a four-game road trip to open a five-game series against the New Orleans Baby Cakes at 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Dodgers have won three straight games for the first time since winning four in a row June 14-17, but have lost 10 of their last 11 home games at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Last Game: Donovan Solano returned from the Disabled List Sunday night, collecting four hits and four RBI, as the Dodgers won their series finale against Round Rock, 11-1, at Dell Diamond. While the Dodgers' offense built a 9-0 lead through four innings, OKC starting pitcher Drew Hutchison (3-1) pitched six shutout innings. He allowed four hits with three walks and four strikeouts in his third win with the Dodgers. OKC took a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning, scoring all three runs with two outs on a RBI single by Edwin RÃ-os and two-run single by Solano. Tim Locastro homered out to left-center field in the second inning for a 4-0 advantage. The first four batters of the third inning reached for the Dodgers, including a two-run homer by Travis Taijeron that boosted the Dodgers' lead to 5-0. Then with one out, Rocky Gale added a two-run double. A RBI single by Solano in the fourth inning made it 9-0. Round Rock was able to break through in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Hunter Cole to bring home the Express' lone run of the game. The Dodgers tacked on two more runs in the ninth on another RBI single by Solano and a sacrifice fly by Jake Peter for an 11-1 advantage. Express starting pitcher David Hurlbut (4-6) was charged with the loss, allowing nine runs and 11 hits over 3.2 innings.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Brock Stewart (1-1) looks to rebound from his first loss of the season when he takes the mound tonight...He last started July 6 against the Round Rock in OKC, allowing three runs and a season-high seven hits over 4.0 innings. He issued two walks and had four strikeouts in OKC's 3-1 defeat. It marked just his second loss in 23 career starts with the club...Stewart has been recalled by the Los Angeles Dodgers six times throughout the season and subsequently optioned to OKC six times...During his time with OKC, he's holding PCL left-handed batters to a .167 average and all hitters to a .147 clip with runners in scoring position...Stewart has shuttled between the Minors and Majors the last three seasons, going 2-3 with a 4.84 ERA over 33 career appearances (11 starts) with the Los Angeles Dodgers...Stewart advanced quickly through the Dodgers system in 2016, starting the season in High-A and ascending to the Majors to make his debut June 29 at Milwaukee. He was named the Dodgers' 2016 Branch Rickey Minor League Pitcher of the Year and to Baseball America's Minor League All-Star Team...Over 11.2 IP in two starts against New Orleans this season, Stewart is 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA. In his last meeting July 1 in New Orleans, he threw six shutout innings, allowing six hits and no walks while recording three strikeouts in a no decision.
Against the Baby Cakes: 2018: 6-5 2017: 6-9 All-time: 175-152 At OKC: 93-70 The Dodgers and Baby Cakes are meeting for their fourth and final series of the season. The teams will play five games in four days this week to make up a game that was rained out July 2 during their previous series at New Orleans...The teams recently met for their last series at The Shrine on Airline, June 29-July 3 with New Orleans winning the series, 3-2, and the Dodgers winning the final game of the set, 4-0...During the first series April 13-16 in OKC, the Dodgers swept the series, 4-0, and outscored the Baby Cakes, 29-18, and outhit New Orleans, 56-32, while closing the series with three straight walk-off wins...New Orleans won the 2017 series, 9-6, marking their first season series win against OKC since 2011 and just their second against OKC since 2006...During the 2018 season series between these teams, the home team is 9-2 so far...Henry Ramos has batted .450 (18x40), with four homers, eight extra-base hits and 18 RBI over 11 games versus the "Cakes.
Warm Welcome: Last night Donovan Solano played in his first game with the Dodgers since May 22 after missing close to two months of the season due to a hamstring injury. The infielder finished the night 4-for-5 with a double, four RBI and a run scored. The four-hit outing was his second of the season with Oklahoma City (also May 20 vs. Nashville) and marked his first four-RBI game since Aug. 26, 2017 with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre against Syracuse...At the time of the injury in May, Solano was slashing .370/.419/.507 and ranked fourth in the PCL in batting average and fifth in hits. He's now up to 58 hits and 19 multi-hit games in 39 contests with OKC...Including his time with the AZL Dodgers on a rehab assignment, Solano is 15-for-30 with seven RBI over nine total games since returning to game action.
Highly Offensive: The Dodgers scored double-digit runs last night for the first time since a 10-6 win at Sacramento June 7 and scored 11 runs in a game for the first time since an 11-2 victory against Nashville May 20. Sunday marked the fourth time this season the Dodgers scored 11 or more runs in a game...OKC's 10-run margin of victory Sunday also tied for the team's second-largest of the season behind a 19-1 win against the Express April 11 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Dodgers also defeated Nashville by 10 runs, 13-3, May 17 in OKC...Over the last six games, the Dodgers have batted .324 (71x219) and have scored 44 runs. They've tallied at least six runs five of those six contests and notched at least 12 hits three times. The team has gone deep in all six games, including the last five straight with two homers apiece to total 11 dingers. They are batting .361 (13x36) with runners in scoring position during that time.
Adding Some Flavor: Kyle Garlick had yesterday off, but he has hit safely in seven straight games. During that time, Garlick is 13-for-29 (.448) with three doubles, two homers, five RBI and six runs scored...He hit a go-ahead grand slam Saturday night - - the first grand slam of his career - for his team-leading 12th homer...Over his last 11 games, Garlick is 16-for-42 (.381) with six extra-base hits and five multi-hit games.
Teach Me How to Dugie: Alex Verdugo did not play last night, but over his last eight games with an at-bat, Verdugo is 15-for-30 with five multi-hit outings, two homers and six runs scored. He has 31 hits over his last 21 games...Verdugo paces the Dodgers with 83 hits in 60 games and his .352 season batting average paces the PCL...Verdugo has eight homers this season with OKC after hitting six homers in 117 games last season with the team. Five of those home runs have come over 10 meetings against New Orleans this season.
Along the RÃ-os Grande: Edwin RÃ-os went 2-for-4 with a RBI and scored a season-high three runs last night...He has hit safely in nine of the last 10 games, going 14-for-33 (.424). He has five multi-hit outings during the stretch with eight runs scored and eight RBI.
Around the Horn: The Dodgers have scored first in five straight games...Brian Schlitter has allowed just two runs over his last 10 appearances, spanning 14.1 innings. Opponents are 9-for-50 (.180) with just two walks. His 13 saves are second in the PCL...Kyle Farmer is 5-for-9 with four doubles over his last two games. Eight of his 13 hits this month have gone for extra bases...The Dodgers have lost eight of the last 10 series openers, including the last four straight, as well five of the last seven home series openers.
