
Oilers Take to the Road

TULSA, OK- The Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League will begin a grueling three-game road trip tonight when they play the Odessa Jackalopes at 7:00. They will then travel to Amarillo for a game against the Gorillas tomorrow night, and will wrap up their road swing on Saturday night in Albuquerque with a contest with the New Mexico Scorpions.
Tonight's game features a pair of division leaders. The Oilers (13-1-0) sit atop the Northwest Division standings with 26 points, while the Jackalopes (8-3-3) lead the Southwest Division with 19 points. Forward John Bossio paces Odessa with 15 points on seven goals and eight assists, while forward Mike Rutter ranks second on the team with 13 points (4-9-13). The Jackalopes also lead the CHL with seven short-handed goals on the season.
Several Tulsa players have tallied impressive numbers during the Oilers best start in franchise history. Veteran forward Todd Marcellus leads the team and is ranked second in the CHL with 24 points (12-12-24). His 12 goals are tied for the league lead as well. Marcellus and Jamie Steer both have a defensive rating of +19, which is the league's best. Jorin Welsh leads CHL defensemen with a +17 rating. Goalie Rod Branch has been perfect on the season, winning all 13 games that he has started, five of which were shutout victories, which is a new career-high for Branch. Branch is scheduled to get a break tonight, as the Oilers will start rookie goalie Jason Stone against the Jackalopes.
