Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that their National Hockey League affiliate, the Edmonton Oilers, have agreed to terms with right wing Colin McDonald on a two-year entry level contract and have also agreed to one-year terms with left wing Ryan Flinn, defenseman T.J. Kemp and defenseman T.J. Reynolds.
Kemp spent last year at the AHL level leading all Manchester Monarchs defensemen in scoring collecting five goals and 33 assists for 38 points in 65 games played. Kemp participated in the 2007 AHL All-Star Game last season in Toronto, Ontario. The 26-year-old native of Pickering, Ontario ranked second among all AHL rookie blueliners in scoring in 2006-07. Before turning pro in 2005, Kemp played his collegiate hockey with Mercyhurst College from 2001-2005. In 14 playoff games with the Monarchs last year, Kemp tallied seven points (2-5-7) and 12 penalty minutes.
"With the addition of Kemp, it adds another solid defenseman into the Oilers organization who can create some offense from the blueline," said Falcons president and general manager Bruce Landon. "Fans in Springfield saw a lot of Kemp last year and know the type of all-star season he had a year ago. With the addition of Flinn and Reynolds, Edmonton was able to sign a pair of players who are tough to play against and add a physical presence to the lineup every night."
McDonald, the Oilers second round selection (51st overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, is coming off a four-year career with the NCAA's Providence College Friars, serving as co-captain during his final two seasons. The 6' 3", 205-pound native of Wethersfield, Connecticut, led the Friars with a career-high 13 goals last season.
Flinn, a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, is entering his 7th professional season and has played 31 National Hockey League games with the Los Angeles Kings, recording one goal and 84 penalty minutes. Last season, Flinn notched six points (2-4-6) while reaching career-highs in games played (61) and penalty minutes (166) with the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League.
Reynolds, 6'2", 225-pounds, played 42 games with the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals last season, registering one assist and 93 penalty minutes. The Kitchener, Ontario native will be entering his 6th professional season in 2007-08.
