Tulsa Oilers News Release
Tulsa, OK - Troy Ofukany signed with the Tulsa Oilers on Tuesday and wasted no time getting involved offensively. The 24-year old forward scored his first goal as an Oiler in his first game with the club. In the third period of the Oilers 7-6 shootout loss to Arizona on Tuesday night, Ofukany (Oh-FOO-kuh-nee), picked up a rebound in the high slot and fired it into the net to pull Tulsa within a goal.
Ofukany, a native of Kamloops, British Columbia, arrives in Tulsa after starting the season with the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL. Last season, Ofukany played for the Lulea Rebels of the Swedish Division 1 where he recorded 13 goals and 10 assists in 19 games.
At 6'0â=80" and 200 pounds, Ofukany is no stranger to the CHL. He began his pro career in 2008 with Wichita where he recorded a career-high 36 points in 62 games and was named the Thunder's most improved player. Ofukany played half of the 2009-10 campaign in Wichita, before finishing the season with the Odessa Jackalopes. For his junior career, Ofukany spent four seasons in the WHL in Canada and spent time with the Kelowna Rockets, the Regina Pats, and the Red Deer Rebels.
"Troy brings a lot of skill and experience to our hockey club," said Oilers Head Coach Bruce Ramsay. "I know he's very comfortable playing at this level and I think that was evident on Tuesday night against Arizona. I'm excited to see what happens when he starts to gel with the other guys on the team and I don't think that will take long at all."
The Oilers return to action on Thanksgiving night when they take on the Laredo Bucks at 7:05pm.
Tickets are available by calling the Oilers office at 918-632-7825 or by logging on to www.tulsaoilers.com.
