Oilers Lose Lead in Third Period, Fall to Wichita 4-3

Tulsa Oilers News Release

WICHITA, KS - The Oilers gave up a two-goal third period lead and had a goal disallowed in the final minutes of a 4-3 loss to Wichita at Intrust Bank Arena on Sunday evening.

Just 30 seconds into the third period Troy Ofukany gave Tulsa a 3-1 lead over Wichita and the Oilers (10-7-2) were poised to win back-to-back games and take the season series lead from the Thunder (12-5-0). Instead, Wichita came roaring back with goals by Daniel Tetrault and Colin Hemingway to tie the game at 3-3. Thomas Beauregard scored his eighth of the season at the 15:27 mark to give the Thunder its first lead of the game.

With 1:15 to play, after a grinding shift by the line of Marty Standish, Ryan Raven and Jay Sprague, the puck trickled behind Wichita goalie Ryan MacDonald and across the line for the apparent game-tying goal. However, referee Peter Tarnaris immediately waved off the goal. In their frustration, the Oilers were given a pair of ten-minute misconducts, one against Standish and one against Head Coach Bruce Ramsay. Shorthanded for the remainder of the game, the Oilers were unable to get the equalizer and fell to Wichita for the third straight time.

Thanks to a first period goal by Standish and a second period tally from Ryan Cramer, Tulsa led 2-1 after forty minutes. For just the third time this season, the Oilers lost a game when leading after two periods. Tulsa also failed to score on three powerplay opportunities after scoring a powerplay goal in each of the previous eight games.

Ian Keserich had another admirable performance in net for the Oilers with 33 saves on 37 shots.

Tulsa will be back at home on Friday, December 9th at 7:35pm for the second meeting of the season with the Allen Americans.

Tickets: Season tickets for the Oilers 20th season in the CHL are now on sale. More information is available by calling the Oilers office at (918) 632-PUCK (7825) or by visiting www.tulsaoilers.com.
