Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK - The 65th season of Tulsa Oilers hockey came to an end Saturday at the BOK Center, as the Oilers fell to the Wichita Thunder 5-1 to finish the season 27-37-6-2, good for fifth in the Central Division and 11th in the Western Conference.
Wichita jumped out to a 1-0 lead, when Louick Marcotte scored a short-handed goal 8:23 into the game. The Oilers outshot the Thunder 14-10, but trailed by one entering the first break.
Tulsa tied the game when Garrett Ladd skated in on a breakaway and lifted a backhander under the crossbar 4:58 into the second period for his third goal in as many games. Wichita regained the lead four minutes later, when Blake Tatchell snuck behind the defense and beat Oilers goaltender Jonah Imoo to give the Thunder a 2-1 advantage heading into the final period.
The Thunder added a second short-handed goal late in the third period, when Gerrad Grant scored on a breakaway. Wichita then scored two empty net goals in the final minutes of play.
The Oilers will miss the playoffs for the second straight season. The 2017-18 season begins the second week in October. It will be Tulsa's fourth ECHL season and 26th consecutive season of AA hockey.
