RAPID CITY, SD. - Rapid City defenseman Geoff Fortman collected a pair of goals, while Rush goaltender Adam Morrison stopped 36 of Colorado's 38 shots to claim a 4-2 victory over the Eagles on Friday. Colorado forwards Matt Brown and Matt Garbowsky each tallied a goal in the loss.
Colorado jumped on top when Brown slammed home a rebound in the low slot to give the Eagles the 1-0 edge at the 15:08 mark of the first period. The goal was Brown's third of the season and second in the last three contests.
Heading into the second period, the Rush would strike back when forward Ryan Misiak deflected a pass on top of the crease past Eagles goalie Lukas Hafner to tie the game at 1-1 just 3:31 into the middle frame.
Later in the period and with Rapid City on its second power play of the night, Fortman fired a slapshot from the top of the left circle that would light the lamp and give the Rush a 2-1 lead at the 16:22 mark of the second period.
Colorado would battle back to square the game when Garbowsky unleashed a wrist shot from the slot that would beat Morrison and tie the game at 2-2 at the 9:33 mark of the third period.
Rapid City would quickly break the tie when Fortman stuffed in a loose puck on top of the crease with only 2:34 remaining in the contest to give the Rush the 3-2 lead. The advantage would be stretched to 4-2 on the ensuing faceoff, as forward Ryan Walters would split a pair of Eagles defenders and lift a shot past Hafner.
Colorado would pull Hafner in favor of the extra attacker, but would draw no closer, as the Rush would hold on for the 4-2 win.
The Eagles finished 0-for-4 on the power play, while Rapid City scored on one of its three chances on the man-advantage.
The Eagles will be back in action when they take on the Rapid City Rush on Saturday, April 8th at 7:05pm MT at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.
