Tulsa Oilers News Release

ALLEN, TX - A first period hat-trick from Drew Fisher, a 4-0 lead in the second period, and 51 total saves from Kevin Carr weren't enough for the Tulsa Oilers on Wednesday night. Greger Hanson's goal at 9:41 of overtime capped off a dramatic comeback to give the Allen Americans a 5-4 victory on home ice and a 2-0 lead in the first-round playoff series.

Over the opening eight minutes of the game, the Americans outshot the Oilers 10-1 but could not get a puck past Tulsa goalie Kevin Carr. Allen forward Spencer Asuchak was called for elbowing at 5:33 and defenseman Aaron Gens received a double-minor for high-sticking at 11:32 to create a 5-on-3 advantage for the Oilers. With open ice to work with and a clear shooting lane, Fisher ripped a wrist shot past the glove of Joel Rumpel at 12:01 to put the Oilers on the board first. On the ensuing 5-on-4 power play, Fisher created his own lane by darting off the boards and pulling the puck across the top of the Allen crease. As Rumpel slid from left to right, Fisher banked a shot off the Americans' goalie and into the back of the net for his second goal in the span of 1:43. Rumpel's mask came off as the puck crossed the goal line but Fisher's tally was upheld by referee Peter Tarnaris. In the closing seconds of the period, Fisher stole the puck from Allen blue-liner Konrad Abeltshauser and flew down the right wing for an uncontested opportunity on Rumpel. The third-year pro completed his first period hat-trick by tucking the puck underneath the crossbar and provided the Oilers with a 3-0 edge heading into the dressing room.

Jeff Jubinville pushed the Tulsa lead to 4-0 at 11:30 of the middle frame with his first career playoff goal. A shot from Adam Pleskach went off the right pad of Rumpel and Jubinville was there to bury the rebound. Four minutes later, the Americans began chipping away at the deficit. Asuchak slammed a Chad Costello pass into an open net at 15:16 and Abletshauser unleashed a power play slap shot at 17:15 to narrow the Tulsa lead to 4-2.

Just past the midway point of the third period, another sharp, cross-ice pass from Costello ended up on the tape of Gary Steffes and the former Oilers' forward pulled the Americans within one with his second goal of the postseason. At 14:29, Abeltshauser pounced on a loose puck between the circles and lifted a shot over the glove of Carr for the game-tying goal. Allen outshot Tulsa 21-6 over the final 20 minutes of regulation and the trend continued in overtime.

After Carr denied several quality chances from Chris Crane, Costello, and Asuchak, the Americans used a 3-on-1 rush to send the Allen Event Center into a frenzy. Dyson Stevenson slid a pass to Abelthauser who quickly moved the puck to Hanson and the Swedish winger made no mistake from the left side of the Tulsa crease. Hanson's first goal of the postseason, and third point of the evening, sparked a wild celebration and sent the Oilers home empty-handed.

Allen outgunned Tulsa 8-1 in overtime and through the first two games of the series, the Americans hold a 97-51 advantage in total shots on net. The Oilers ended the night 2-for-5 on the power play and both clubs have now scored three power play goals in the first two contests. In addition to the three-point night from Fisher, the Oilers were led by Scott Macaualay, who finished with a pair of assists, and Jubinville, who chipped in an assist to go along with his goal.

The series shifts to Tulsa for Game 3 on Friday at 7:35 p.m. at the BOK Center.
