March 22, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO - The Missouri Mavericks used a three-goal surge in the second period to pull away from the Oilers and went on to post a 5-1 victory at the Independence Events Center on Friday night. The Oilers finish the season series with a 3-6-0 record against Missouri and a 1-4-0 mark at the IEC.
Mavs forward Colt King gave the home side the early advantage when he tipped in Kyle Hood's shot at the 17:47 mark of the first period.
Missouri's offensive onslaught began early in the second period when Kenton Miller rifled the puck past Oilers goalie Dan Clarke at 6:58 to make it 2-0. Less than two minutes later, the Mavs pounced on an Oilers turnover and Ryan Jardine set up Andrew Courtney who fired past a helpless Clarke for a three-goal cushion. Before the middle frame was over, Brandon Smith added his ninth goal of the season and Missouri cruised into the second intermission with a 4-0 advantage.
Courtney netted his second goal of the evening on an early third period powerplay thanks to an assist from Sebastien Thinel, the CHL's leading scorer. Ryan Barlock got the Oilers on the board at 7:59 of the third. The rookie defenseman received a feed from Gio Flamminio and fired the only shot of the game to sneak past Mavs goalie, Mike Clemente.
The Oilers were outshot 46-25 and end the season with an 8-24-1 record on the road, one victory shy of last year's road win total. Tulsa has won just twice in its last 12 visits to Missouri.
Clarke, making his fourth start of the season, made 41 saves in a losing effort while Clemente improved to 5-2-0 against the Oilers behind 24 stops.
The Oilers will wrap up the 2012-13 regular season on home ice this weekend when they host Wichita at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday and face off against Allen at 4:05 p.m. on Sunday at the BOK Center.
