Tulsa Oilers News Release

The Tulsa Oilers continue an active off season completing a number of trades which involved future considerations from the recently concluded 2008-2009 Central Hockey League season.

The Oilers have acquired the CHL playing rights to defensemen Tom Maldonado and Tyler Fuller, as well as goaltender Ryan Gibb from the New Mexico Scorpions. Tulsa also receives the rights for defenseman Joe Markusen from the Mississippi RiverKings.

Maldonado (no relation to former major league baseball player Candy Maldonado), 5-foot-9, 185 pounds, played in 34 games for the Scorpions in his rookie pro season, scoring three goals and 12 assists for 15 points and was +10. His acquisition completes the deal in which the Oilers sent Adam Blanchette to New Mexico.

To complete the trade in which New Mexico received Ben Chaisson, the Oilers receive the rights to Fuller, a 6-foot, 200 pound defenseman who had five assists and was +5 in 27 games with New Mexico; and goaltender Gibb (no relation to the Gibb Brothers of music fame known as the Bee Gees) who split time between Laredo and New Mexico last season. His one win in three appearances with New Mexico came against the Oilers in a 3-2 win on February 28th. In his total of 18 games, Gibb was 10-5-2 with a 3.13 goals against average, and .902 save percentage.

When the Oilers sent Martin Gascon to Mississippi, that trade was for future considerations, which have now been completed with the acquisition of Markusen, a 6-foot, 185 pound defenseman. He played in all 64 games for Mississippi scoring 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points and was +19. He added another two goals and four assists in 12 playoff games.

At the start of last season, the Oilers acquired Bobby Reed from Oklahoma City in exchange for future considerations, and to complete that trade, Oklahoma City has received the CHL rights to goaltender Kevin St. Pierre.

Season tickets for the Oilers 2009-10 season in the BOK Center are available by calling the Oilers at (918) 632-PUCK (7825).
