Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that the team has acquired the rights to three players to complete a pair of trades during the 2008-09 season.
RGV acquired the rights to forward Kyle Sheen and goaltender Lanny Ramage, both of whom played for the Rapid City Rush last season. The Killer Bees also acquired the rights to defenseman Nick Harloff from the Rocky Mountain Rage. All three acquisitions complete future consideration picks that were part of trades involving Travis Banga (Sheen and Harloff) and the rights to Josh Bonar (Ramage).
Sheen is a 6-foot-2, 230-pound Calgary native who played in 47 games last season and posted 10 points (2-8-10) and 154 PIM with Rapid City. His pro totals in three seasons include 169 games, 82 points (35-47-82) and 561 PIM. He turned pro in 2004 and played for a trio of United Hockey League clubs that season before returning to school in 2005-06 at Mount Royal College. He resumed his pro career in 2007-08 with Huntsville (Southern Professional Hockey League).
Harloff has three seasons of pro experience and competed in 56 games with Rocky Mountain last season. He posted 17 points (5-12-17) and 55 PIM. The 6-foot-0, 195-pound product of Kitchener, Ontario, also played for the Rage in 2007-08 and prior to that had stints with various ECHL, UHL and SPHL teams.
Ramage went 6-13-3 with a 3.50 GAA and .898 save percentage as a rookie pro last season. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Baldur, Manitoba, played from 2003-08 at Acadia University and before that spent four seasons with the Portland Winter Hawks in the Western Hockey League.
"Sheen is a kid who plays with an edge and also has the ability to put up some points. He adds both elements and I fell he will improve our team," Killer Bees Head Coach Chris Brooks said. "Harloff is consistently a 15-20 point defenseman with good offensive instincts. A lot of teams in the North spoke highly of him when it came time for me to make a pick," Brooks explained. "Ramage had good numbers in the WHL and saw limited time in Rapid City. I think he adds depth to the position."
The Killer Bees return to Dodge Arena ice this October for their seventh season in the CHL. Season tickets are available now by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825).
