Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings secured a 6-5 win over the Tri-City Americans in what was a back-and-forth game at Rogers Place on Thursday night.

The Oil Kings and Americans skated to a scoreless first period with the visitors leading the shot clock 14-3 but Kolby Hay was able to come up with a pair of big saves off of partial breakaways to keep the game deadlocked.

In the second period, the Oil Kings raced out to a 3-0 lead getting goals from Gavin Hodnett, Ty Nash and Cole Miller in a span of 4:14 before the period was six minutes old.

Hodnett got the icebreaker after pounding home a one-timer from the right-circle on a power play for his first of two special teams markers in the game.

Nash made it 2-0 after taking a drop pass from Gracyn Sawchyn just inside the Tri-City line and lasering a shot over the left pad of Lukas Matecha for his 12th goal of the season.

On another Edmonton power play, Miller scorched a shot from the left circle through a perfectly placed screen by Marshall Finnie to make it a 3-0 game.

Tri-City would answer late in the period though with three quick ones of their own as Nick Anisimovicz, Jackson Smith and Parker Bell, his first of three on the night, all tallied in the span of 2:39 to close the middle stanza at a 3-3 tie.

In the third period, Roan Woodward put Edmonton back up by one 5:30 in after slipping a backhander up and over Matecha on a great setup from Sawchyn and Nash.

The Americans were once again able to pull back to even after Bell rifled home his second of the night just under four minutes later.

At the 13:06 mark, Hodnett's second goal of the game and eighth of the season pulled Edmonton ahead for good after he put in a rebound off a Sawchyn shot at the side of the Tri-City net.

Marshall Finnie put in his team leading 13th goal of the season into an empty net with just over a minute left in the game. Bell completed his hat-trick in the waning seconds but that would be as close as the Americans would get.

Hay finished the night making 33 saves for his 13th win of the season, while Matecha made 14 stops for the Americans. Edmonton went 3-for-4 on the power play, Tri-City was 1-for-3.
