Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
(Edmonton, AB) - The Edmonton Oil Kings have signed 2008-born goaltender Parker Snell to a Western Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement, the team announced today.
Snell, a St. Albert, AB product, was selected in the second round, 34th-overall, by the Oil Kings at last week's WHL Prospects Draft.
The 6-foot, 159-pound netminder played this past season with the U15 Northern Alberta Xtreme where he went a perfect 15-0-0 in the regular season and led the CSSHL in goals-against average (1.35), save percentage (.944) and shutouts (4).
"It is very exciting to be welcoming Parker and his family to the Oil Kings organization," said Oil Kings Director of Scouting Michael Chan. "Parker excited our staff throughout the year with his play, his accolades come well-earned and we look forward to his continued progress."
He was named the U15 Prep CSSHL's Top Goaltender and to the league's First Team All-Stars list.
During the post-season, he helped NAX capture the U15 Prep CSSHL Championship going 4-0 with a 2.49gaa, .917sv%.
"The foundation of Parker's game, coupled with his ability to elevate in high-pressure games and situations, is what captured our attention all season," said Kurtis Mucha, Oil Kings Development Coach. "Parker will join our program immediately as we work to provide him continued feedback and development to build on his game and contribute to the future success of the Edmonton Oil Kings."
As an affiliate with the U17 Prep NAX squad, Snell went 4-0-0 with a 1.75gaa, .925sv% and two shutouts.
