Edmonton, AB - Laurent Brossoit celebrated his 19th birthday in style as he posted a 29 save shutout to lead the Edmonton Oil Kings to a 3-0 win over the Kootenay Ice on Friday night. The win marks the first ever playoff victory in the modern era of the franchise. Mitch Moroz tallied the first goal of the Oil Kings 2012 playoffs with a tap in off a Curtis Lazar rebound. Oil Kings leading scorer Michael St.Croix tallied and Lazar added a brilliant end to end tally to finish the night with 2 points.
Brossoit would also add an assist, his first of the playoffs and fourth point this year. Brossoit matched or broke nearly every modern franchise goaltending record in the regular season. He posted a 2.47 goals against average, started in 61 games and notched 42 wins with a trio of shutouts.
