Offensive Renaissance Leads Pippins to 15-6 Win over Bend

YAKIMA, Washington - Yakima Valley exploded for 15 runs and 12 hits against Bend on Sunday, snapping a four-game West Coast League skid to get back into the win column.
It was a much-sought victory as the Pippins managed to win the final game in the three-game set after falling to the Elks on Friday and Saturday.
But it wasn't an easy start, looking eerily similar to Saturday's game in which Bend took an early lead. The Elks took a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the second on Sunday, before the Pippins got on the board with a run in the bottom of the frame.
A four-run outburst in the fifth, highlighted by Jace Phelan's three-run double, tied the game at 5.
Turning the tables on Bend from Saturday night, when the Elks scored 15 runs in the fourth and fifth innings, the Pippins took the lead for good with three runs in the seventh and seven in the eighth inning. Tommy Eisenstat plated two with a single, and later scored on an error.
In the eighth, Spencer Shipman brought home a run with a bases-loaded walk, Eisenstat had an RBI single, and Beck Maguire added a two-run double to highlight the run production.
After a rough second inning, Spokane Falls Community College southpaw Evan Hamberger settled down to end his night with two strikeouts in the fourth inning.
The ball was then given to Jackson Betancourt, and he turned in another dominant outing. The Montana State University Billings lefty tossed 4.1 shutout innings, giving up just one hit and adding three strikeouts with an efficient 57 pitches thrown.
It was a successful night for the organization both on and off the field, as the Pippins raised close to $4,000 on Alzheimer's Awareness Night at The Orchard, using an online auction to sell special purple jerseys that Yakima Valley wore and raise funds for Alzheimer's research and awareness.
