Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The Chicago Steel scored eight times as they extended their home winning streak to a franchise best 11-straight wins at Fox Valley Ice Arena as Chicago bested Fargo 8-2 Saturday night at Fox Valley Ice Arena. Chicago (23-12-1-0, 47 pts.) extended its overall win streak to six games as they had seven different goal scorers in the game including a goal from Josiah Slavin in his first game with the Steel after being acquired earlier this week. Neither of Fargo's (19-14-1-2, 41 pts.) two goaltenders used in the game were able to keep up with the high-scoring Chicago offense on this night.
The Steel and Force played between the blue lines for the first 4:56 of the game before Chicago goaltender Justin Robbins was called upon to make the first save of the game. Fargo would crack the scoreboard when forward Zach Faremouth finished off the second-chance opportunity just past the midway point of the opening frame.
From that point on, it was all Steel as Chicago would close the period with three goals on five shots. Center Cole Quisenberry tied things up just 1:38 after Faremouth's goal with a wrist shot that found room between the glove and body of Fargo starting goaltender Matthew Sankner.
Left wing Robert Mastrosimone gave the Steel their first lead of the game 41 seconds later when he slammed a pass home from center Adam Robbins for his first goal of the night. Right wing Mathieu De St. Phalle picked up the secondary assist on the play as all three players extended point streaks on the goal.
Chicago capped off the period with Slavin's first Steel goal. Slavin received a pass from left wing Gunnarwolfe Fontaine behind the defense and sent home a forehand shot as he was hauled to the ice by a Force skater.
Mastrosimone again found the back of the net just 45 seconds into the second period for his second goal of the night and third in three games. The Boston University commit deked around Sankner after De St. Phalle found him wide open with a cross-ice pass. The goal was the fourth goal on six shots for the Steel and moments later, Sankner was pulled in favor of Ryan Bischel.
Bischel made six saves on eight shots but was pulled when the Steel extended the lead to 6-1, prompting Sankner to re-enter the game later in the second period. The Steel beat Bischel twice in 7:31 including a powerplay goal from defenseman Matteo Pietroniro and forward Adam Gajarsky's first career tally. After a physical shift, Gajarsky settled the puck in front of the net before he roofed a shot over the glove of Bischel. Gajarsky has three points (1-2-3) in his last four games after being held off the scorecard for his first 27 contests.
Fargo got a goal back just 1:02 after the second goalie change of the night when forward Ben Meyers scored his 25th of the season. The Steel scored again at the 15:26 mark when defenseman Owen Power scored his fourth of the season. Right wing Travis Treloar added his 11th goal of the year 20 seconds later to cap the scoring.
Robbins made 23 saves for his sixth-straight win, improving his record to 16-8-1-0. The Steel victory came exactly a year to date since the last eight-goal performance at Fox Valley Ice Arena, an 8-2 win over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on January 26, 2018.
The Steel close the weekend series with the Force with a Sunday afternoon game for Trains, Trains, Trains day presented by Wausau Homes North Aurora. Fans are invited to stick around after the game for a full-team autograph session.
Tickets for all Steel home games are on sale now starting at just $10 and stadium seating on the glass is available for just $20. Parking is always free.
