
Offense Backs Anderson in Rout of Peoria

(Burlington-IA)- The Burlington Bees sent 12 men to bat in the second inning, scoring seven runs, on their way to a 9-0 win, over the Peoria Chiefs, on Thursday night at Community Field.
Zach Houchins got everything started with a walk to lead off the bottom of the second inning. After Fran Whitten struckout looking, Wade Wass sent a broken bat single to center, placing runners at first and second. Trevor Gretzky worked a walk to load the bases for Erick Salcedo. With the bases full and no one out, Salcedo lined a double down the leftfield line, clearing the bases, putting the Bees on top 3-0. Kasey Coffman picked up his first hit as a Bee, lining a single to left, putting runners at the corners. Following a walk to Caleb Adams, loading the bases, Peoria went to their bullpen. Andrew Daniel greeted, Chiefs' reliever, Blake McKnight with a grand slam to left, extending the Bees' lead to 7-0.
The Bees added two more runs in the fifth. Fran Whitten reached with a one out single and moved to second after Wade Wass was hit by a pitch. Trevor Gretzky grounded into a fielders' choice, putting runners at the corners. After Erick Salcedo was walked, loading the bases, Kasey Coffman singled to center, scoring Whitten, making the score 8-0. Trevor Gretzky came around to score, making the score 9-0, thanks to a Peoria Chiefs' error.
Justin Anderson (2-0) pitched six shutout innings, giving up five hits, not issuing a walk and striking out five in the win. Dewin Perez (0-1) was charged with the loss. Bees' relievers, Jonah Wesely and Ronnie Muck, combined to throw three scoreless innings, securing the 9-0 win, in game one of the three game series.
