Odessa Tops Yellowbook CHL Coaches Poll

(Tempe, Arizona) - The Odessa Jackalopes are off and rolling this season leading all CHL teams with 11 points and a 5-1-1 record. The Jacks have team's taking notice with their high-flying offense (37 goals scored in seven games) and their unbelievable power play (17 for 56, 30.36%). Add to their list of early season accomplishment being voted as the #1 team in the league on the first Yellowbook CHL Coaches Poll of the 2009-10 season.

The Jackalopes received nine of the possible 15 first place votes (teams are unable to vote for themselves) totaling 130 points. Two other teams received first place votes with the expansion Allen Americans (#2) receiving five first place votes and the Colorado Eagles (#3) showing up at the top of one team's ballot. The Americans are off to a great start at 4-1-1 and have earned the respect of the coaches in the league with 116 points, two more points than the Eagles. Last year's top team at the end of the season, the Mississippi RiverKings, show up in the #4 spot on the poll with 85 points and the Amarillo Gorillas round out the top five with 83 points.

The poll is divided evenly with five teams from each conference represented. The Southern Conference has four of the top six teams in the rankings.

The CHL Top 10 Coaches Poll will be released on or near the beginning and middle of each month through the regular season. Each first place vote receives 10 points, second place votes earn nine points, etc.
