
O'Brien named CHL Player of the Week

Seattle, February 26, 2008 Jim O'Brien was named the Canadian Hockey League Player of the Week of the week for February 18th through February 24th.
In three key Western Conference contests last week O'Brien was exceptional, scoring eight points on two goals and six assists en route to victories over Prince George, Kelowna, and Portland. O'Brien efforts had just earned him the WHL's Player of the Week on Monday the 25th.
On Wednesday, February 20th, the T-Birds hosted the Price George Cougars at KeyArena. O'Brien totaled three assists and was named the games 2nd Star en route to a 6-1 Seattle victory. The Thunderbirds traveled to Kelowna on Friday, February 22, to take on the Rockets in a game with playoff seeding implications. O'Brien had another solid game scoring three points on one goal and two assists, as the T-Birds skated to a 5-2 win and surpassed the Rockets in the Western Conference standings.
Saturday, February 23rd, the T-Birds returned home to face the rival Portland Winter Hawks in front of the largest crowd of the season. O'Brien again rose to the occasion and finished the game with one goal and one assist in a 6-2 Seattle win.
O'Brien, a 19-year-old from Maplewood, Minnesota, is in his first year of play in the WHL with the Thunderbirds. O'Brien has excelled during his first year on the ice for the Thunderbirds. In 60 games he has totaled 47 points on 18 goals and 29 assists and is +17.
O'Brien was selected in the 1st round, 29th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators.
O'Brien is the Thunderbirds first CHL Player of the Week this season.
The T-Birds travel to Everett to take on the Silvertips on Friday, February 29, at 7:35 p.m. They are back home at KeyArena on Saturday, March 1, to face the Rockets at 6:05 p.m. Hockey Challenge 2008 takes place on Saturday at KeyArena. Six hockey games are set for Saturday that support Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington & Alaska. Fans can see all six games of the Challenge, including the Celebrity All-Star game, scheduled after the T-Birds game, by purchasing a ticket to T-Birds gamed against the Rockets.
Season tickets are currently on sale for 2007-08 at KeyArena. Fans purchasing 2007-08 season tickets will have the highest seating priority for the 2008-09 season as the Thunderbirds open the new Kent Events Center.
