Oaks beat Quakes 3-0
June 6, 2006 - California League (CalL1)
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
VISALIA-Jonathan Barratt threw a complete game shutout and Shaun Cumberland hit a two-run homer as Visalia upended the Quakes 3-0 at Recreation Park Tuesday night. The win pushed the Oaks to 26-32 on the year while Rancho Cucamonga's four-game winning streak ended and dropped the Quakes to 30-28.
The Oaks got all the offense they would need in the first, as Fernando Perez led off with a single and Cumberland followed two batters later with a two-run homer down the right field line, his team-leading 13th of the year. Visalia then added an insurance run in the sixth as Reid Brignac led off with a double and scored on a groundout by Chris Nowak.
That was plenty for Barratt (3-2), who despite setting a season-high with nine strikeouts was not overpowering and benefited from numerous line drives that were hit hard but right at his fielders. All told Barratt allowed no runs, two hits and one walk. Jose Arredondo (3-4) turned in a quality start with three runs, three hits, three walks and six strikeouts in seven innings but still took the loss. Ryan Leahy doubled and walked to lead the offense.
Game two in this three-game series is set for 6:35 p.m. Wednesday and will be carried live on KWRM-AM 1370 and online at www.rcquakes.com. For more information, please call the Quakes at (909) 481-5000.
