Oakland Roots climbed into a playoff position for the first time all season as the team topped San Diego on Wednesday night to go level with Tacoma on points for the fourth and final playoff spot. Now Roots turn their attention to another six point clash as they are set to face off with third place Orange County who are just four points ahead of Oakland.
Oakland Roots Johnny Rodriguez scored a Goal of the Year contender with a bicycle kick to open the scoring vs San Diego helping lead the Roots to a 2-1 victory. Jose Hernandez picked up his third of the year from the penalty spot to secure Oakland the much needed three points.
Orange County is coming off a 2-1 defeat at the weekend to Pacific Division leaders Phoenix Rising as the teams behind them are starting to catch up. OC currently sit on 34 points from 24 games having won just two of their last eight games since they last faced Oakland Roots.
