Oakland Roots to Allow Fans Back at Temporary Venue
July 2, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Oakland Roots News Release
The new field turf system we ordered for Laney ahead of the 2021 USL Championship season was delayed by months due to a combination of factors including the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent shipping delays.
When it was clear that we would be unable to play at Laney until the new turf system was ready, we thoroughly vetted every stadium and sports facility in Oakland and the greater East Bay to explore whether we could play at an alternative venue that accommodates our fans, meets our standards, league requirements, and allows us to continue our USL season. That search is now complete, and we are happy to announce a temporary space for Roots.
We will play our "home" matches on July 10, 14 and 17 at Las Positas College in Livermore. We will be back at Laney as soon as our new turf system is installed.
Las Positas has an incredible grass field in a beautiful venue on the edge of the East Bay, and they can host three games in seven days. Thank you to Las Positas for hosting us on short notice.
We will build bleachers and a fan experience zone to allow 1200 fans to attend and support the team. Food and soft drinks to be provided.
