Red Bull New York II News Release
MONTCLAIR, N.J. - New York Red Bulls II (11-7-5, 41 pts.) are set for their second match of the season against Atlanta United 2 (7-11-5, 27 pts.) at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET and coverage is available on MLS Season Pass with Apple TV.
Red Bulls II are coming into today's match riding high after defeating Columbus Crew 2, 5-0, in their most recent contest last Sunday night. New York had five different goal scorers in the match, including Wiki Carmona, Frank Ssebufu, Matt Nocita, Ibrahim Kasule, and Mohammed Sofo. The victory allowed Red Bulls II to gain more ground in the Eastern Conference standings as the side looks to solidify a top spot in the table.
Atlanta, who are on the other side of the playoff line, will be playing for their postseason hopes in today's match. The opposition are coming off a 5-1 loss against New England last week and need to gain major ground in order end up in seventh spot of the table.
The last match between these two sides came back in the beginning of the season in Atlanta, when New York came out on top after a 1-1 draw led the match to a shootout. Wiki Carmona had the goal for Red Bulls II, and the road side sank all five penalties they took to come out on top 5-4 and earn the second point in the standings.
In their five goal victory last weekend in Columbus, Red Bulls II proved how many different attacking options they have on the roster. Other than the MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Month Ibrahim Kasule, New York has an incredible amount of depth in the attacking end. Names such as Frank Ssebufu, Wiki Carmona, and now recent addition Mohammed Sofo are making major contributions for the side as they look to make a push in the final five games of the regular season.
While the attacking play has found its form over the past few weeks, the defensive performance for the entire season from Red Bulls II cannot be overlooked. New York currently sits at 1st in the Eastern Conference and 3rd in MLS NEXT Pro in least goals allowed with 26 on the season thanks to incredible play from the back line. The side is also ties for second in the league in clean sheets with seven on the year so far.
Red Bulls II currently sit at 4th in the Eastern Conference with 41 points in 23 matches played. Atlanta is looking up at New York, as they are in 10th place with 27 points in 23 matches.
Coverage is available on MLS Season Pass with Apple TV.
