New York Red Bulls II (12-7-5, 44 pts.) defeated Atlanta United 2 (7-12-5, 27 pts.) 4-2 on Monday, August 21, at MSU Soccer Park.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 18th minute, as midfielder Nick Firmino converted on a rebound following an initial shot from forward Karim Tmimi.

Red Bulls II leveled the match two minutes later, as midfielder Wiki Carmona threaded a pass through the middle of the field to midfielder Ibrahim Kasule, who gathered, turned, and ripped a shot from outside the box.

New York gained the lead in the 28th minute, as Carmona played in a cross from the far side of the field that was immediately headed in by forward Frank Ssebufu.

The home side doubled the advantage in the 39th minute, as Carmona glided across the edge of the box and sent a shot past the keeper.

Red Bulls II added a fourth on a penalty kick from Kasule in the 60th minute.

Atlanta cut into the deficit in the 78th minute as midfielder Luke Brennan scored off a feed from midfielder Alan Carleton.

With the victory, New York moved within a point of Columbus Crew 2 for third in the Eastern Conference.

Goalkeeper Will Meyer made his professional debut in the match and recorded two saves.

Kasule's brace brought his season goal total to 13, which is tied for third in MLS NEXT Pro. It also marked the first brace of his Red Bulls II career.

His 13 goals are the second-most in a regular season in club history, behind Brandon Allen (2016) and Jared Stroud (2019) who both had 15.

The midfielder is a perfect 6-for-6 on penalty kicks this season, which leads the team.

Ssebufu's goal was his seventh of the season, which ranks second on the team. He has scored a goal in back-to-back matches for New York.

Carmona's goal was his sixth of the season, which is third on the team. He has scored six goals in just eight matches played this season.

The midfielder recorded two assists in the match, which are the first two of his Red Bulls II career.

New York will remain home to host Chicago Fire FC II on Sunday, August 27. Kickoff from MSU Soccer Park is slated for 7:00 p.m. ET. Coverage will be on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
