
Nuts Surrender Late Lead in 5-4 Loss

San Bernardino, CA. - In a seesaw battle, the Modesto Nuts suffered a 5-4, walk-off loss to the Inland Empire 66ers on Saturday night at San Manuel Stadium.
Colin Welmon (L, 1-2) allowed three straight singles in the ninth out of the Nuts' (17-25) bullpen. The third man he faced was big-league rehabber Craig Gentry who roped a RBI single into left to score Zach Welz and give the 66ers (13-30) the win.
The Nuts had taken the lead in the sixth on Max White's solo home run. Omar Carrizales extended the lead when he scored on a wild pitch in the seventh. In the home half of the seventh, the 66ers knocked the Nuts' starter Yency Almonte out of the game after he recorded the first two outs of the inning. Troy Neiman allowed RBI singles to Welz and Gentry to tie the game.
Almonte was excellent working 6.2 innings allowing four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. The righty retired 13 in a row from the second through the sixth innings.
Eduardo Paredes tossed a perfect top of the ninth with a pair of strikeouts.
