
Nuts Suffer Third Straight Defeat with 4-1 Loss

Modesto, CA. - One big inning and missed opportunities sent the Modesto Nuts to a 4-1 loss against the Visalia Rawhide on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field.
Luis Liberato started the first inning for the Nuts (50-71; 20-31) with a doubled but was stranded at third base. In the second, the Nuts loaded the bases with two outs but Rawhide (60-61; 23-29) starter Jeff Bain (W, 3-1) was able to get out of the jam.
In the seventh, the Nuts loaded the bases against West Tunnell with nobody out by Tunnell struck out two and induced a pop out to end that threat.
Bain went five shutout innings allowing six hits with five strikeouts and one walk in his start for the Rawhide.
Ljay Newsome (L, 5-9) was great to begin his night. He retired the first eight he faced before working around a two-out double in the third. The damage all came in the sixth inning when Luis Silverio started the inning with a triple. Newsome issued his only walk before Daulton Varsho pushed across the game's first run with a sac fly. With two outs, Drew Ellis launched a two-run homer to knock Newsome out of the game.
The Nuts righty went 5 2/3 innings allowing three runs on four hits with five strike outs and one walk.
Jeffeson Medina worked a perfect 1 1/3 out of the bullpen for the Nuts. Liberato reached base three times with a double, a single and a walk. Nick Zammarelli led the sixth inning off with a home run to account for the Nuts only run.
Matt Brill (S, 3/5) retired the ninth in order.
