
Nuts Spring into First with 6-5 Win

Visalia, CA. - In a back-and-forth game, the Modesto Nuts triumphed in eleven innings, 6-5, against the Visalia Rawhide on Saturday night at Recreation Park.
With the San Jose Giants' loss, the Nuts (52-46; 19-9) take over sole possession of first place in the North Division's second half standings.
In the eleventh, Correlle Prime started the rally with a single. Troy Stein followed with a walk and Emerson Jimenez whacked a single to load the bases. Raimel Tapia followed and hit a chopper back to the mound. Rawhide (60-37; 18-10) reliever J.R. Bradley's (L, 1-4) throw to the plate was wide allowing Prime to score the winning run.
Matt Carasiti (S, 11/13) tossed a perfect ninth to nail down the win.
Troy Nieman (W, 3-1) worked around two singles to keep the game tied in the tenth for the Nuts.
Alex Balog turned in a quality start for Modesto. The righty tossed six innings and allowed just three runs with seven strikeouts and only one walk.
Michael Benjamin, Jr. cracked two home runs as part of a 4-for-6 night. Ryan McMahon went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a RBI.
The Nuts go for the sweep on Sunday night in the finale of a four-game series against the Rawhide.
