Lake Elsinore, CA. - A sweep of the twinbill ends the Modesto Nuts' eight-game losing streak. The Nuts took game one 13-3 and game two 5-3 against the Lake Elsinore Storm at The Diamond on Tuesday night.
Game one featured a seven-inning complete game from Nuts (64-31-28) starter Antonio Senzatela (W, 9-7). The righty allowed just three runs with seven strikeouts and no walks.
The Nuts offense provided plenty of support sending ten men to the plate in the first inning scoring five runs against Storm starter (L, 0-4) Michael Kelly.
Raimel Tapia went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer in the first game. Michael Benjamin Jr. reached base four times and clubbed a two-run shot. Drew Weeks plated three runs with three RBI single.
In game two, Ryan McMahon and Ashley Graeter broke a tie in the seventh. With two outs, McMahon bounced the go-ahead single into right off Storm reliever Jason Jester (L, 3-2). Graeter followed with a RBI double to put the Nuts firmly in front. Matt Carasiti (S, 19/21) sliced through the Storm 1-2-3 to lock down the save.
Alex Balog (W, 3-6) tossed six innings and allowed just three runs, two earned. In his final inning of work, Balog stranded the go-ahead run at third base to keep the game tied for the seventh-inning heroics. Balog struck out five and walked one while giving up seven hits.
Game three of a four-game series begins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday night. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 5:55 p.m.
