BAKERSFIELD - Nate Gold led off the eighth inning for Bakersfield with his 19th homerun of the season, touching off a three-run rally that led the Blaze to a 6-3 win over the Modesto Nuts Tuesday night. Tomas Santiago, in relief of Juan Morillo, retired the side in order in the seventh inning before giving up the game in the eighth and was charged with the loss. Morillo pitched six innings allowing three runs on four hits. Steven Rowe got the win in relief. Chris Cordero pitched the ninth inning for his 11th save of the season.
Troy Tulowitzki hit his fourth home run of the season in the first inning to give Modesto an early lead. Bakersfield got two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run double by Kevin Mahar. They added another run in the fifth for a 3-1 lead. Joe Gaetti tied it in the Modesto sixth with a two-run double. The hit extended Gaetti's hitting streak to 13 games. Bakersfield's rally in the eighth inning secured the win.
Modesto's lead in the Northern division has now been reduced to one game over the Stockton Ports who won in Visalia.
The series continues Wednesday night as Aaron Marsden goes to the mound for Modesto. He will be opposed by the Blaze' Ace Walker. Game time at Sam Lynn Ballpark is 7:45 p.m.
