Modesto Nuts News Release

The 2007 Modesto Nuts roster has been announced today by the Colorado Rockies. The 25-man roster includes four returning players from 2006 and 21 first-time Nuts. The entire Nuts roster is available online at www.modestonuts.com.

The Nuts roster is comprised of 12 pitchers and 13 position players. This year's Modesto Nuts roster has two of the top ten players in the Rockies organization as ranked by Baseball America. The #4 rated prospect, centerfielder Dexter Fowler, batted .296 with 46 RBI and 43 stolen bases in 2006 for the Asheville Tourists of the South Atlantic League. Joining Fowler on the Modesto Nuts is the Rockies #10 rated prospect Chaz Roe. Roe, a starting pitcher, went 7-4 last season with an ERA of 4.06 while striking out 80 batters for Asheville.

Other notable players include 2B Eric Young Jr. Last season Young led the entire minor leagues in steals with 87 while batting .295. Young is also the son of former Major Leaguer Eric Young, who was the first ever second baseman for the Colorado Rockies. Outfielder Cole Garner joins the Modesto Nuts after batting .302 with 19 home runs and 86 RBI for Asheville last season.

The Nuts will open their 2007 season on April 5th against the Visalia Oaks at John Thurman Field. Entertainment begins at 5:30 pm with a live concert by Tower of Power founder Mic Gillette and his partner Jon Smith. The Nuts will host their first of 19 fireworks shows on Opening Night prior to the game. Less than 100 Super Box tickets remain for the home opener on Thursday.

The best way to reserve your seats for the best games in 2007 is with a Modesto Nuts mini-plan. Plans start as low as $40 per seat and include Opening Night and the Fourth of July games. For information or tickets, call the Modesto Nuts at (209)572-HITS (4487).
