
Nunez, pitching leads Coyotes to Victory

EDINBURG, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes (26-33) have closed the gap in the playoff race between the Laredo Broncos after defeating the Harlingen WhiteWings (17-41) 3-1 Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Coyotes are now two games behind Laredo for the fourth and final spot in the playoffs after the Broncos lost to the Alexandria Aces.
The Coyotes were led to victory once again due to great pitching. This time Aaron Guerra (7-1) led the charge as he pitched seven solid innings giving up only one run on four hits while striking out seven. He picks up his seventh win of the season. Bryan Herrera (0-1) picked up his first loss for the WhiteWings as he gave up three runs, two by which came off the bat from former WhiteWings outfielder Argelis Nunez. Nunez led the offensive attack for the Coyotes as he went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
After two scoreless innings, WhiteWings were able to strike first after Anthony Slagle came into score from third off a wild pitch from Guerra making the score 1-0 in the top of the third. Coyotes tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning after Mayobanex Santana hit an RBI single to left field bringing in Argelis Nunez from third.
Coyotes struck again in the fifth when Nunez hit a two-run RBI single bringing in Alex Entrekin from third and Robert Matlock from second giving the Coyotes a 3-1 edge. The Coyotes will take on the WhiteWings in Game 3 tomorrow night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05.
