Broncos drop third straight to Aces

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos offense only mustered 2 hits against the Alexandria Aces as they lost by a score of 5-1 at Veterans Field on Friday night. The Broncos continue their 7 game home stand with the 3rd game of a 4 game series against the Aces on Saturday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The game was scoreless till the top of the 4th inning when the Aces got to Broncos starter Santo Hernandez. Selwyn Langaigne led off with a single and went to 2nd on a wild pitch. Then with 1 out, Rafael Ozuna hit a 2 run home run, his 6th of the season. That gave the Aces the 2-0 lead.

The Broncos would score their first run in the bottom of the 5th. Ivan Reyes led off with a home run, his 9th of the season. That cut the lead in half to 2-1.

The game would be still 2-1 after 7 innings when Santo Hernandez was taken out of the game. He gave up only 2 runs on 8 hits. He walked 1 batter and struck out 10. Mickey Callaway came into the game, making his first relief appearance as a Bronco. Callaway would walk a couple of batters and strike out 1 in his inning of work as he kept it a one run game.

It would stay that way till the 9th inning against the Broncos Rusty Jones. Eddie Fitzpatrick walked to start the inning. That was followed by a Bryan Sabatella single. Luis Guance tried to sacrifice them over, but hit a perfect bunt allowing everyone to be safe to load the bases. With the infield in, Selwyn Langaigne hit a ball right to Ivan Reyes who slipped while trying to throw home to get the lead runner and the ball was thrown away. Both Fitzpatrick and Sabatella would score on the play, with Guance going to 3rd and Langaigne to 2nd. After an intentional walk to Palmer Karr Jr. Jones got the 1st out of the inning, but then forced in a run when he walked Andre Marshall. Jones would then get the next two batters, but the damage was done as the Broncos now trailed by a score of 5-1 heading into their last at bat.

The Broncos would go 1-2-3 against Wayne Hedden of the Aces, as that capped off a streak of 15 batters retired in a row to end the game. Laredo dropped the second game of the series to the Aces by a score of 5-1.

The Broncos scored 1 run on 2 hits and committed 1 error, while the Aces scored 5 runs on 10 hits and committed 1 error.

The Broncos now fall to 29-32 on the season and only have a 2 game lead for the last playoff spot as Edinburg won as well.. The Broncos will be back in action on Saturday when they play game 3 of a 4 game series against the Aces at 7:35 at Veterans Field.
