Wilmington Sharks News Release

Michael Castellani produced another impressive game on the mound as the Wilmington Sharks (26-22) defeated the Morehead City Marlins (20-27) by a score of 2-1, thanks to Kyle Nowlin's solo homerun in the fourth inning on Tuesday night at Big Rock Stadium in Morehead City.

Castellani earned the victory, throwing 8 innings while allowing 1 run on 4 hits. Morehead City's run in the first inning was the only run Castellani has allowed since June 20th against the Wilson Tobs.

With two outs in the third inning, Wilmington was able to tie the ballgame. Nick Rotola knocked a single and was moved up to third on Andy Austin's double. A wild pitch brought in Rotola to make the score 1-1.

The tie would not last long as Kyle Nowlin blasted his fifth homer of the summer to lead off the fifth inning to give the Sharks a 2-1 advantage.

After allowing 2 singles in the first inning, Castellani settled in to retire 21 of the next 22 Marlins in order, thanks to some flashy defensive support from Andy Austin at third, Kennard McDowell and Sam Foy up the middle, as well as Hayes Nelson in right field.

Castellani was replaced by Evan Brabrand in the ninth inning, on to collect his 3rd save of the summer. He coaxed the first Marlin into a groundout before the next singled to shallow right-center field. The runner broke for second on a 1-2 count - Logan Sherer swung and missed and Matt Whatley tossed down to second to beat the sliding Marlin and complete the double play to end the game.

The Wilmington Sharks have won 5 of the last 6 games, and return home to the Shark Tank for a doubleheader with the Petersburg Generals. Game 1 will begin at 6:05pm, with the gates opening an hour beforehand. Game 2 will begin roughly 2 minutes after the completion of the first.
