Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

The owners of the best average attendance in independent baseball, the Winnipeg Goldeyes find themselves owning one of the best average attendances in all of minor league baseball.

Of the 205 teams to report attendance in 14 leagues in organized baseball and five independent leagues, the Goldeyes placed 18th with an average attendance of 7,027. They were the only one of 45 independent league teams to eclipse the 7,000 mark and were the only one to do so for the second year in a row.

Winnipeg's average crowd was higher than 18 of 30 Triple A teams, 29 of 30 Double A teams and all but three of 82 Single A teams. Their closest independent rival was Long Island of the Atlantic League at 6,136 while their closest Northern League rival in St. Paul was a little further back at 6,095.

Despite the coldest summer on record, the Goldeyes played to just under 94 per cent capacity. They welcomed more than 7,000 fans in 27 of their 46 openings, including nine sellouts.

As a whole, the 10 teams in the Northern League played to 2,001,268 fans, surpassing the two million mark for the first time ever.
