Kickoff for this in-state rivalry is set for 6:05 PM (AZ Time,) and will be broadcast exclusively on the IFL Network. Coming off a tough loss on the road, the Wranglers (0-2) are looking to bounce back with their first win of the season. Head Coach Ron James brings vast football experience but is shooting to have his team prepared to notch his first win as a head coach in the Indoor Football League. The Wranglers fell to the Fishers Freight at home during their season opener, and most recently lost to the Bay Area Panthers on the road. Last Sunday, the Wranglers fought hard and stayed within one possession of the Panthers going into the game's final quarter. Offensive struggles were the story again for the Wranglers in their second loss of the year. The Wranglers turnovers handed the Panthers too many points, and they were unable to recover in the fourth quarter. Northern Arizona lost to Bay Area by a final score of 50-28.

The Wranglers have continued to show flashes of their potential, especially on the defensive side of the football. The Wranglers defense forced their first turnover of the season in their second game. The defense also was able to get multiple stops when they needed them. Wide receiver David Elder provided the Wranglers with a burst of energy with great plays on offense and kick returns. Running back Marvin Kinsey Jr. scored a pair of touchdowns for the second consecutive week. Quarterback CJ Fowler made some great plays down the stretch but has continued to struggle with turning the ball over. The Wranglers will need more consistency from their offensive line, quarterback, and skill players to turn the tide in their third game. Defensive back Bikembe "Hitstick" Kearney currently leads the Wranglers defense with 11 total tackles.

Saturday's contest marks the first meeting of the season between the Wranglers and the Sugar Skulls this season. The Sugar Skulls (0-2) will also be aiming for their first victory of the season. The Sugar Skulls are fresh off a hard-fought one possession loss, as they fell to the Jacksonville Sharks of the IFL's Eastern Conference by a score of 28-21. Tucson dropped their season opener to the Arizona Rattlers, as they were largely dominated in a 56-28 loss. Tucson has talent on their roster and have a good team in place who has been unable to notch their first win. Tucson has also faced offensive struggles much like Northern Arizona, and both teams look to change the narrative this week and earn their first victory. The Sugar Skulls will be led by Head Coach Billy Back who has been a seasoned leader in indoor football, bringing over a decade of experience to the team. Tucson has a prominent offensive weapon in running back Devonte Sapp-Lynch and may look to power their offense through their ground game against Northern Arizona.

The Wranglers are focused on going 1-0 this week and getting a win in front of their home crowd. This in-state rivalry should be intense, as both teams need a win to re-ignite the young season. The IFL's Western Conference always has a tight race for those four playoff spots. The Wranglers are looking to build on their potential and get the victory.
