Northern Arizona Wranglers News Release

Washington joins the Wranglers for his first season in the Indoor Football League. Washington started his collegiate career at Marshall University, which is located in Huntington, W.Va. Before his junior season, in 2021, Washington transferred to the University of Charleston, which is in Charleston, W.Va. Washington was phenomenal on the field for the Golden Eagles, earning a 2022 selection to the All-Mountain East (MEC) First Team, and a selection to the 2022 All-American Second Team. During his senior season, Washington had the third most interceptions in the MEC, and the fifth most passes broken up in the conference. Washington also ranked top five in the entire NCAA for interceptions, and top ten in the NCAA for passes broken up.

Washington is originally from Arcadia, Fla., where he attended DeSoto County High School. Washington credits his family as his inspiration to start playing football when he was younger. Washington stated, "Growing up I was always more advanced than kids my age when it came to the game of football." I was motivated to start playing football by watching old tapes and hearing stories of how good my father was in California." Washington expanded by saying, "I wasn't born yet, but my dad was a baller out in California at Seaside High School, I was interested in playing and keeping football in the family." As far as what drives him to continue playing today, Washington stated, "It's crazy knowing how far I have come, from the beginning I just knew to get the ball and run, and to defend guys from running with the ball." Washington is a student of the game and strives to learn more during his first IFL season. Washington added to this by saying, "I have learned so much more since the start of my career. I love getting to know the game beyond the basics."

When asked about what he is looking forward to about joining the Wranglers, Washington stated, "I am looking forward to being able to showcase myself, and my ability to play at any level." Washington added to this by saying, "This was an opportunity that came out of nowhere. [Head] Coach [Les] Moss contacted me, and gave me the rundown of how things are ran with the Wranglers, and I am excited for the opportunity to play football." Washington also discussed a few connections that he shares with Coach Moss, including, but not limited to, being from Florida, and playing football in West Virginia.

What can Wranglers fans expect from Washington as a player? When asked, Washington responded by saying, "They can expect somebody who will give their all every day, every play, and all week." In regard to what he brings to the table, Washington also said, "I am a big-time playmaker. The fans can expect a lot of interceptions. I am ready to go out and show what I can do."
