NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (October 31, 2002) â The North Charleston Lowgators have added fourteen new players to participate in their upcoming Training Camp, following the Second Annual NBDL Draft. The players selected include Corey Benjamin - a former number one pick of the Chicago Bulls, Damone Brown - a former second round pick of the Philadelphia 76ers and former Duke University standout Nate James.
"We picked up some guys who can really make a major impact on the success of our team this season," said Lowgators Head Coach Doug Marty. "With the addition of great players at every position, it should make for an extremely competitive and intense training camp."

Corey Benjamin, Oregon State: 6-foot-6, 220 lbs.
Larry Reid, Kansas State: 6-foot, 170 lbs.

Ime Udoka, Portland State: 6-foot-6, 215 lbs.
David Dixon, Washington: 6-foot-10, 280 lbs.
JR VanHoose, Marshall: 6-foot-10, 245 lbs.
Damone Brown, Syracuse: 6-foot-9, 200 lbs.
Tobe Carberry, Vermont: 6-foot-2, 185 lbs.
Travis Robinson, Jacksonville: 6-foot-6, 220 lbs.
Tierre Brown, McNeese State: 6-foot, 189 lbs.
Nate James, Duke: 6-foot-6, 200 lbs.
Sam Haley, Missouri: 7-foot, 245 lbs.
Antwain Smith, St. Paul's College: 6-foot-8, 220 lbs.
Yuchiro Morishita, Towson State: 5-foot-10, 170 lbs.
Corey Benjamin, a 6-foot-6, 200 pound small forward (Oregon State '00) was drafted as an early entry candidate by the Chicago Bulls in the first round (#28 pick overall) of the 1998 NBA Draft. He played with the Bulls for three seasons, from 1998-99 to 2000-01. In his final season with the Beavers, he averaged 19.8 points and 5.0 rebounds â both team highs.
In addition to Benjamin, the Lowgators added two of the best point guards in the draft by selecting Larry Reid (2nd round, 15th pick) from Kansas State and Tierre Brown (10th round, 79th pick) from McNeese State.
The North Charleston Lowgators will open training camp Sunday, November 3 at the Citadel to begin preparation for the 2002-03 NBDL season. The Lowgators training camp will run from Sunday, November 3 â Thursday, November 14.
The Lowgators allocated players, guards Jamel Bradley (University of South Carolina), Jermel President and Jeff Bolton (College of Charleston) and forward Thaddeous Delaney (College of Charleston) will also compete for a coveted spot on the Lowgators' roster. Last season, three of four allocated players -- Sedric Webber, B.J. McKie and Antonio Grant -- made the final roster.
The Lowgators have also invited Courtney Eldridge and Robert Jones, selected from the Lowgators open tryouts held in mid-October.
A minimum of one allocation player is guaranteed a spot on each team's final roster of 10 players. First roster cuts will be made on November 6th. By November 14th, each team will have a 10-man roster, which must be maintained throughout the season.
The North Charleston Lowgators open the 2002-03 NBDL season Friday, November 15, 2002 on the road against the Mobile Revelers at the Mobile Civic Center. The Lowgators home opener is a rematch of last year's NBDL Finals on Sunday, November 17 against the defending champion Greenville Groove at the North Charleston Coliseum.
