North Carolina FC Draw with Richmond Kickers, 0-0

North Carolina FC News Release

RICHMOND, VA - North Carolina FC saw through a scoreless draw against the Richmond Kickers on Saturday night, as another dazzling performance from Jake McGuire kept NCFC in the game. The result was not reflective of NCFC's outstanding offensive effort, as they maintained 57% possession and posted 83% passing accuracy throughout the contest.

NCFC created several dangerous chances during the first half, one of which began when Jay Tee Kamara slipped a through ball to Selmir Miščić in the final third. On his first touch, Miščić redirected a shot toward net, only to be met with a diving save by Kickers goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald to maintain the 0-0 deadlock in the 15th minute. A second attempt by Miščić would meet a similar fate five minutes later, as Fitzgerald kept the home team in the game.

An impressive recovery by McGuire prevented the Kickers from gaining the upper hand in the 30th minute, as an attempt from Richmond was deflected off of an NCFC defender. McGuire, who had already committed to blocking the original attempt, quickly changed direction to tip the near-chance off of the post and back into play where it was cleared by the defense.

Despite a hard-fought performance from NCFC, neither side prevailed as the points were shared in Richmond. Yet another standout performance from McGuire and First Team debuts for Yekeson Subah and Britton Fischer highlighted tonight's match, as the young squad continues to improve with each match.

Post-game Quotes:

NCFC Head Coach John Bradford: "Tonight was a step in the right direction - from last week where we started poorly and ended poorly, tonight was a collectively strong effort from start to finish. I know the guys are happy to improve, but certainly want to work towards a win. Some strong performances from several guys and great to have two more players make their professional debuts. We'll look forward to a good week of training and to get back on our home field and look for our first win."

NCFC Goalkeeper Jake McGuire: "I'm really happy with the team's performance tonight. It's our first clean sheet in the regular season and a step in the right direction on both sides of the ball. I thought we were a bit unlucky not to come out with the win tonight, but we battled hard and played really good, dynamic soccer moving the ball up the pitch with control. The wins will come, but we are happy with that point on the road."
