MONTPELIER, Vt.- The North Adams SteepleCats topped the Vermont Mountaineers 7-2 on Tuesday night in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).

North Adams scored a run in the second, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the ninth to seal the deal and put away the win.

Vermont starter Jon Stiever (Cedarburg, Wis./Indiana) went five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. The righty walked one batter and struck out three.

The SteepleCats offense struck first in the second inning when right fielder Edward Haus (Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif./St. Mary's) doubled, and then came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Easton Johnson (Austin, Texas/Texas Arlington).

After going quiet in the third inning, North Adams came alive again in the fourth when Easton Johnson ripped a two-RBI single, driving in Edward Haus and Noah Vaughan (Conroe, Texas/Texas Arlington).

The Cats struck again in the fifth when Dustin Shirley (Los Angeles, Calif./Dartmouth) hit an RBI double, driving in Nick Riotto (Washington, Pa./Penn State) from second.

North Adams' solid offensive day was helped by starter Peter Lannoo (Terre Haute, Ind./Cornell), who pitched six solid innings, yielding no earned runs and striking out seven batters.

The SteepleCats offense added three insurance runs in the ninth. Easton Johnson scored with one out in the inning thanks to an error by the Mountaineers right fielder. Nick Riotto came around to score two batters later on an RBI single off the bat of Dustin Shirley. John Mazza (Lexington, Mass./Northeastern) knocked another RBI single later in the inning to drive in Daniel Holst (Durango, Colo./SE Missouri St.).

The Mountaineers offense got a run in the fourth and one more in the ninth. Mike Osinski (Vestal, N.Y./Longwood), who had an impressive day at the plate going three-for-four, singled and came around to score on a wild pitch in the fourth to put the 'Neers on the board.

Vermont's only other run came when catcher Ryan Fineman (Westlake Village Calif./Indiana) scored on an RBI groundout by Jeremy Giles (Claremont, Calif./Stony Brook).

Peter Lannoo picked up the win for North Adams, improving him to 3-2. Jon Stiever suffered the loss for the Mountaineers.

Vermont will be back in action tomorrow night when they'll host the Sanford Mainers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM at Montpelier Recreation Field. The game can be heard on CBS Sports 1240 AM WSKI or online through The NECBL Broadcast Network.
