Mystic Schooners News Release

The Schooners would strike first in their half of the third inning behind a home run from Nick Mascelli. Taishi Terashima led off the inning with a walk and Mascelli brought him in when he launched 1-0 pitch over the left-field fence to get the Schooners on the board. They would pick up another run off a Rich Slenker double in the gap in right-center which scored Chase Lunceford.

The Bay Sox would answer with two runs of their own in the 4th inning. A big two-out double from Jessey Valdez scoring Ryan Wolfsberg and Jakob Goldfarb, to make it 3-2.

The Schooners would control the game from here on out, as they would score a run in the 5th, two runs in the 6th and 7th, and a run in the 8th.

In the 5th inning, a Brett Bond double play groundout to the shortstop would allow the hustling Mascelli to score from third base.

A hard hit ball to the third baseman by Toby Handley was misplayed which allowed both Martin Figuroa and Terashima to score on the play.

Ryan Ramiz brought in a run in the 7th with a single to right field and Casey Baker hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring in a run.

Nick Mascelli lead off the 8th inning with a triple, he hit a high bloop that got down in right field and took a massive hop to the right allowing him to get to third. Chase Lunceford would then hit a sacrifice fly to right, which would allow Mascelli to score easily.

Jonathan Signore started on the mound for the Schooners and was brilliant, as he pitched at Fitch high school for the first time this season. He worked fast but was effective. The right-hander allowed just two runs (one earned run) on five hits in six innings, walking one and striking out four.

The Schooners are back in action tomorrow to play the Plymouth Pilgrims. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM at Fitch High School.
