August 6, 2016 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) - Mystic Schooners News Release

GROTON - A combination of hitting and pitching helped the Schooners defeat the Bay Sox to move on to the next round of the NECBL playoffs.

Doug Domnarski took the mound for the Schooners in the win or go home game three. Domnarski started off hot retiring the first ten Bay Sox hitters. Domnarski would run into some trouble in the fourth inning giving up two runs but would limit the Bay Sox to just those two. Domnarski would pick up the win for the Schooners going seven innings giving up three runs on six hits and six strikeouts.

The Schooners took the lead early as Chase Lunceford hit a two-out, two run double in the first inning scoring Rich Slenker and Martin Figeuroa.

Back-to-back singles in the fourth inning from Robbie Doring and Alex Mata would notch the game at two apiece.

It wouldn't take long for the Schooners to regain the lead. With a full count, Martin Figeuroa saw a fastball that he hit for a solo home run to left field.

Casey Baker started off the fifth inning with a four-pitch walk, Alex LeFevre then took a 1-1 pitch over the fence in center field for a two-run home run.

The Bay Sox would add another run in the top of the sixth off a Jakob Goldfarb home run to right field making it 5-3.

The Schooners would tack on a run of their own in the sixth when Lunceford led off with a double, advanced to third on an error and scored on Casey Bakers fielder's choice.

Carson Teel earned a save as he worked the 8th and 9th innings, recording the final six outs the Schooners needed to win the game.

With the win, the Schooners advance to the Divisional Championship round of the NECBL playoffs. They will play the Newport Gulls Saturday evening at Fitch High School. First pitch scheduled for 6:05PM.
