NORMAL, Ill. -Prior to the six-game homestand, Manager Billy Horn has announced the signing of catcher Nick Garland and the release of Ryan Dickt.

Garland joins the CornBelters after finishing his senior season at Central Connecticut State University. In his final season, he started all 46 games and drove in a team-high 29 RBIs with 22 runs scored while knocking four home runs and seven doubles. Garland reached base in 17 straight games (team-best) while recording career highs in RBIs, SLG, walks, hits, and home runs. He was also named to the Jonny Bench Award Watch list.

Behind the plate, Garland was lights out. He picked off a team-high seven runners and threw out 20-45 attempted bases runners along with a .987 fielding percentage in his final season. The native from Massapequa, New York, finished up his career with throwing out 51 base runners and just 19 errors.

In his sophomore year, he took over the starting catcher role for the Blue Devils and was ranked 16th nationally as the toughest to strike out with only striking out eight times in 139 at-bats.

The two-time Northeast Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll will start behind the plate in the series opener against the River City Rascals tonight (June 26) with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
