River City Rascals News Release

O'FALLON, MO--The River City Rascals dropped a rare Monday game to the Gateway Grizzlies by a score of 6-5 at CarShield Field tonight. The Grizzlies scored six unearned runs in the win, and now lead the season series over the Rascals 4-3.

The Rascals got on the board first with a three-run fourth inning, getting an RBI single from Clint Freeman, and another from Trevor Achenbach, in his regular season team debut. A third run scored on an error from Grizzlies third baseman Matt Gonzalez, who's throw to first trying to nab Achenbach was too high. Trae Santos got the Grizzlies on the board with a two-run shot in the fifth inning. They scored two more in the sixth, on an RBI double from Joel McKeithan, with a second run scoring on an error by Rascals right fielder Clint Freeman, who tried to cut down McKeithan at second. RBI singles Terry McClure and Matt Gonzalez, who had four hits on the night, made it 6-3 Grizzlies.

The Rascals made it 6-5 with RBI singles from Kevin Suarez and Mike Jurgella in the seventh, and had runners at second and third with one down in the eighth, but hit into a double play on an attempted sacrifice fly, with Grizzlies right fielder Blake Brown cutting down Freeman at the plate to end the frame.

Dan Ludwig went 5.1 innings and gave up three runs, and reliever Chad Gendron (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs out of the bullpen.

Max MacNabb (4-4) earned the win for the Grizzlies, going six innings and allowing four earned runs while striking out 10. Kevin Simmons earned his fourth save of the year.

The Rascals (21-18) hit the road for a nine-game trip, beginning tomorrow night at the Corn Crib in Normal, IL for the series opener against the CornBelters. Scott Grist will make the start for the Rascals.
