Normal CornBelters News Release
O'FALLON, MO - The Normal CornBelters, presented by the Illinois Corn Farmers, were within an out of a second straight win over the River City Rascals at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon before the Rascals rallied and beat Normal 4-3 Wednesday night. Normal had previously come back from a 2-0 deficit earlier in the game.
The CornBelters got a solid start out of Bobby Pritchett as he went 6 2/3 strong, scattering six hits and striking out seven and giving up just two runs before exiting. Lefty Donald Furrow came in in the seventh inning and worked two innings of his own with three hits and two strikeouts before eventually giving up the two earned runs that would be the game winners.
Normal used the long ball to their advantage on the offensive side of things. After falling behind 2-0 the CornBelters used a solo home run from Daniel Cox his 15th and a two run blast from Asif Shah his fourth to accumulate all three of their runs on the scoreboard. Cox finished the night 2-4 while Shah was 1-4 as the CornBelters concluded the evening with 9 hits total.
Normal and River City meet for the series finale Thursday night at T. R. Hughes Ballpark and it will be the final meeting between the two teams this season, first pitch is set for 7:05pm.
