Nordiques Sweep the Rebels, Remaining in Fourth Place
February 4, 2023 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Maine Nordiques News Release
The Maine Nordiques were taking on the Philadelphia Rebels after a 7-2 performance from the previous night.
The first period started with the Nordiques going to the penalty kill early and were able to kill it off. The Nordiques put on the pressure and converted with Hernik Hallberg sniping one bar down to give the Nordiques the lead. The Nordiques would strike again as Brendan Gibbons picked up his third goal of the weekend off a great feed from Hallberg who will represent the Nordiques this weekend at the top prospects tournament.
The second period started with carried-over penalty time for the Nordiques which they were able to kill off. The Nordiques maintained the pressure for most of the frame and it would look like the Nordique's two-goal lead would take them into the third period, but The Rebels scored on a buzzer-beater and made it a one-goal contest.
In the third, the Nordiques came out flying trying to get the goal back. The Rebels would take a penalty and Oliver Genest would record his second goal in three games to give the Nordiques a 3-1 lead. Tommy Heaney made some big saves and finished 31/32 on saves. The Nordiques would have to kill off a penalty as time was winding down, the Rebels pulled their goalie and Filip Wiberg forced a turnover at center ice and found the empty net for the Nordiques' 4-1 victory.
The Nordiques will send Henrik Hallberg and Nick Bernardo to Pittsburg to play in the NAHL top prospects tournament and then take on the Maryland Black Bears at Piney Orchard next weekend.
