Maryland Black Bears News Release

The Maryland Black Bears looked to extend its three-game win streak against the Maine Nordiques, who entered the contest on a six-game losing streak. Despite this, the Nordiques were able to tie the game late and win it in a six-round shootout by the final score of 4-3.

Maine struck twice within 12 seconds to take a 2-0 lead with goals from forwards Zion Green and Brendan Gibbons. After that, the Black Bears began to chip away. Before the first period was over, forward Lake Aldridge tipped a shot home on the powerplay to make it 2-1. Maryland forward Jacob Brockman scored on a point shot in the second period to tie the game 2-2.

The Black Bears took the lead on a powerplay goal in the third from defenseman Kevin Scott to make it 3-2. But late in the game with the goaltender pulled, the Nordiques were able to tie it with 1:13 to go. Maine forward Jonny Meiers tipped home a point shot from defenseman Mathew Connor to make it 3-3. The game went to overtime but went scoreless, leading to the shootout. And in round six, Nordiques' forward Tristan Fasig scored the game-deciding goal to send Maine home with a 4-3 win.

Maryland and Maine will rematch tomorrow night with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 PM ET at Piney Orchard Ice Arena. The game can also be streamed on HockeyTV.
