MISSISSAUGA, ON - The IceDogs travelled to their former home in Mississauga and earned a road point on this night thanks to two goals with the man advantage. Alex Assadourian and Zak Lavoie both added a goal and assist, the ladder being his first against his former squad. Mississauga would earn the extra point on this night in the extra time as the teams skated three on three.
Starting Goaltenders: Josh Rosenzweig (NIAG), Ryerson Leenders (MISS)
The IceDogs had an early chance shorthanded to open the scoring as Daniel Michaud would skate with power earning himself a breakaway but the shot was ripped off the post behind Leenders.
The IceDogs would open the scoring with 6:27 remaining in the first period as Kevin He would find Alex Assadourian who would roof a wrister over the glove of Leenders for his 11th of the season.
The Steelheads would capitalize on a late period powerplay as Rosenzweig made a big pad save on Vecchia but the rebound came right out to MacDonell who tied the game. Just before the end of the period Mississauga would take the lead with 2.9 seconds remaining to take a late lead thanks to Misa.
During a man advantage the IceDogs would tie the game as Andrew LeBlanc would send a cross crease pass over to Zak Lavoie who buried it to even up the game against his former Steelheads squad with his team leading 19th goal of the campaign.
On another IceDogs powerplay a point shot by Nathan Ribau would direct off a Mississauga stick and redirect into the net giving Niagara a 3-2 lead just before the halfway point of the final period.
The Steelheads would even the game at three a piece and off the next faceoff Daniel Michaud would drop the gloves with former IceDog and teammate Brice Cooke.
The game would go to extra time and the Steelheads would seal it thanks to Zander Vecchia going in with speed and beating Rosenzweig for the winner. Rosenzweig would stop 44 shots in the 4-3 overtime defeat.
Niagara will be back home on Sunday to face another division opponent in the Sudbury Wolves for a specialty jersey day designed by IceDogs alumni Akil Thomas for Black History Month.
