Nneka Ogwumike Selected to All-WNBA Team

October 15, 2023 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) - Los Angeles Sparks News Release

The WNBA announced today that Nneka Ogwumike has earned All-WNBA Second Team honors for the second consecutive season.

Ogwumike was selected to the All-WNBA Team for the sixth time in her career, the fifth time being named to the All-WNBA Second Team. Ogwumike had a historic season, putting up numbers comparable to her Most Valuable Player season in 2016. She averaged 19.1 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. Ogwumike ranked sixth in the league in all three categories, and finished top six in MVP voting. In 2023, she was also named a WNBA All-Star starter, and was selected to her sixth All-WNBA Defensive Team.

"Nneka had a fantastic 2023 season and continues to add to her legacy as one of the best players in the history of the WNBA," Head Coach Curt Miller said. "Her production during her 12th WNBA season has rarely been seen in our league, and she remains one of the most efficient players in our league. Her All-WNBA honor is well-deserved."

Ogwumike also broke many LA Sparks and league records in 2023. She set the Sparks single-season records for both points (689) and field goals made (264). She now ranks Top 2 in franchise history in scoring, trailing just Lisa Leslie, and Top 15 in WNBA history in scoring, as well as rebounding. Defensively, Ogwumike also demolished the franchise record for career steals, with 549 total. In 2023, Ogwumike also became just the fifth player in WNBA history to record 100 career double-doubles.

"We're proud of Nneka for earning both All-WNBA and All-Defensive honors this season," General Manager and Chief Administrative Officer Karen Bryant said. "Nneka is an MVP caliber player and person, consistently representing the Sparks organization with her elite play and leadership. She continues to add to her resume as one of the great Sparks and WNBA players of all time."
