Nine Position Players Register Hits in 12-8 Victory

Collecting 16 hits the Calgary Vipers (10-8) defeated the Lake County Fielder's (12-6) 12-8 at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. The Vipers spread around the offence with nine different players registering hits but Wilver Perez led all of them with three to go along with three runs scored and four runs batted in. Calgary fell behind 2-0 before scoring five times in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead and after a Lake County rally the Vipers went ahead for good in the late innings.

On the mound Chris Bodishbaugh (2) was excellent in earning the save as he entered into a one-run game in the eighth inning and preceded to strike out five batters in his two innings of work. J.J. Whetsel (1-1) received the win after his team broke a 7-7 tie in the seventh frame while Ryan Carr (0-1) took the loss by allowing two runs in an inning and a third.

Lake County jumped in front in the top of the first inning when Quentin Luquette walked, Rex Rundgren singled, C.J. Ziegler knocked in a run with a base hit, and Matt Mansilla collected a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 advantage.

Calgary responded in a big way in the bottom of the frame as Jonny Kaplan singled, stole second base, Wilver Perez drove in a run with a base hit, Andy Jenkins singled, Drew Miller was hit by a pitch to load the bases, both Justin Tellam and Louie Templeton singled in runs, and Jimmy Rohan walked for a run batted in and a 5-2 lead.

The Vipers added a run in the second for a 6-2 advantage when Perez was hit by a pitch, stole second base, and scored on a clutch two-out, two-strike single from Miller.

The Fielders responded in the next half inning as Luquette singled, Nunez hit a fly ball into right field that was misplayed for a hit, Ziegler was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Mansilla walked for a run batted in, and Brad Payne drove in a run with a groundout for a 6-4 score.

In the fourth frame Lake County took back the lead when Dan Blewett and Luquette singled followed by a Nunez three-run home run for a 7-6 advantage.

Calgary tied the game in the fifth as with two outs Templeton doubled and was driven in with a clutch single from Rohan for a 7-7 score.

Perez handed the Snakes back the lead in the sixth inning with his second home run of the season for a 8-7 advantage.

Lake County tied the game right back up in the seventh as Mansilla doubled and scored on a Patrick Brooks RBI single for a 8-8 game.

The back and forth continued in the bottom of the frame when the Vipers grabbed back the lead after Jeff Giacomini doubled, Rohan singled, and on a eight-pitch at-bat Aaron Dunsmore collected a sacrifice fly for a 9-8 advantage.

Calgary added some insurance in the eighth as Kaplan singled, Perez tripled for a RBI and scored on a throwing error, Jenkins singled, stole second base, and scored on two wild pitches for a 12-8 lead.

Calgary continues this four game series against Kevin Costner's first place Lake County Fielders at Foothills Stadium on Weiner Wednesday June 15th at 12:05 for $1.00 hotdogs along with $5.00 admission for students, on Thursday June 16th at 6:30, and on Friday June 17th at 6:30 for Aboriginal Night with 50% off regular admission with Metis or CIS card.

The Calgary Vipers will be hosting three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USAA Pride and the Tennessee Diamonds August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.
