Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals came within 90 feet of earning their second straight walk-off victory against the Lake County Fielders, but they came up just short and had to settle for a 6-5 defeat on Monday at TELUS Field.
The Caps trailed the Fielders 6-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth, but first baseman Brent Metheny drove in right fielder Tom Collaro with a double to make it 6-4, and third baseman Carlos Duncan cashed in Metheny with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-5.
Pinch hitter Pete Tountas and centre fielder Steve Brown walked to load the bases, but shortstop Enrique Cruz struck out for the third out to end the game, just one day after he hit the game-winning double to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 walk-off on Sunday. Brown and Duncan led the Caps batters on Monday with two RBI apiece.
With the tough loss, the Caps' record dropped to to 9-7, while the Fielders improved to 12-5 and extended their lead over Edmonton in the North American League's North Division to 2.5 games. Caps pitchers struck out a remarkable 47 batters in the final four games of their series against the Fielders, highlighted by 10 strikeouts from starting pitcher Lou Pote on Monday.
Tuesday is an off-day for the Caps, but they open a new three-game series against the Chico Outlaws Wednesday through Friday at TELUS Field. The series opener is another K-97 Wiener Wednesday with $2 hot dogs all night, while Thursday's game is another Thirsty Thursday with $3 beer, and Friday is the second Fireworks Friday of the season presented by 92.5 JOE FM.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
